Mrs. Hattie Johnson Cross Dies at Rock Hill
On Friday afternoon, May 22 at 1:10 o’clock the death angel called for Mrs Hattie Johnson Cross.
Mrs. Cross was born Oct. 4 1865 in Ellis county died May 22, 1931 at 1:10 p.m., age 65 years, 7 months and 18 days. She was the mother of 11 children, 8 of whom preceded her in death. The three surviving children are Mr. Lee Huddleston, Point, Texas; Mrs. Sadie Davis, McKinney; Mr. Ernest Cross, Rock hill. Deceased was married to R. A. Huddleston in the year of 1880 in Hill county. Nine children were born to this union.
In 1901 she married James E. King. Two children were born to this union and in 1908 to Andrew Johnson Cross, who died March 4, 1931 and is buried at Bethel cemetery. Mrs. Cross was buried by his side. She was the grandmother of 22 children, 18 of whom are living. Also 3 great grand children. Two are living also nine step children.
Mrs. Cross was born in Texas and spent all of her life here. She united with the Methodist church at the age of fourteen at Small, Van Zandt county. She was a member of the Methodist church about 50 years.
Mrs. Cross suffered ill health for several years before her death. She bore her affliction bravely. She was a true Christian worker. Her going was a great loss to our community in which she had lived so long. A host of friends were present at the funeral at the Bethel cemetery at 2 o’clock, Saturday afternoon. Revs. Roberson of the Methodist church, Evans of the Presbyterian church of Prosper conducted the funeral service.
