Are you from Delphos, Kansas?
Were your ancestors?
My husbands family is from Delphos and we really love seeing their names in print.
I'm going to try to abstract parts of the Delphos Republican so that the genealogists out there can find their family listed. Seeing what they did in their home town really helps give a personality to the names we all have in our databases.
I'm hoping the current editor of the paper will publish an article like they used to do - 100, 75, 50 and 25 years ago in Delphos. Many thanks to Raymond Pachta and Sharon Snively at the library for helping me get the microfilm to read.
I don't live in the area so please don't ask me to do lookups unless the name is in the Ottawa County history book.
Disclaimer 1: I do not intend to copy each article verbatim. News items can be wordy so I'll cut to the meat of some of the articles. I may even tell the story in my own words. Where there are community articles I'll just list the names mentioned.
Click on each issue to see it. You can even do a "find" for your surname.
(I did this one several years ago while I was at Delfest)
From just these few issues I can see that this every name project will be too time consuming at this time. Those above are as complete as possible listings of local names mentioned but future articles listed below will be hit and miss.
okay, we have permission to submit an article for the Delphos Newspaper
on a weekly basis. So Ill post them here about the same time as I submit them to the paper.

I am out of microfilm to continue the Years ago in Delphos articles.
I will continue this page when I receive some more films.
In the meantime I found a newspaper site of various newspapers and will copy just a few random articles as I can.

me a gedcom file and I'll put them all together. I transcribed the Marriage Book 1 at the
Ottawa Co, KS Courthouse, which covers 1866 to 1883. I make no claims as to its accuracy as I was
unable to go back and proof read it. I am publishing it as is, in hopes it will help
someone with their research. Please email the
webmaster for the Davis Family file in progress.

Posted on the Ottawa group:
As part of my "Kansas History and Heritage Project," I have
created a website for Ottawa County:
>
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ksottahp/index.html
>
This new, free website features: 1894 and 1917 G.A.R. posts and rosters; 1865 Kansas State Census; 1875 Kansas State Census for Chapman and
Concord townships; 1878 gazetteer and business directory; obituaries; alumni lists for the Minneapolis and Delphos high schools; 1918 plat
maps (all townships); photo album; and more. I am looking for a source for biographies, and if I find any, I will add them.
>
I hope you will have a look at my new website, and if you have any corrections, suggestions, questions or want to contribute pictures or
data, I will be happy to hear from you. I am moving on to my next county in the project, but I will come back to Ottawa from time to time to add data,
so please bookmark this site. I will announce any major additions of data on this list.
>
Ottawa is the 31st county in this project--only 74 counties to go! I hope to have all Kansas counties online with the next two or three years,
but until I can gather enough data for a specific county, I will store the files for that county on the state website:
>
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kahhp/index.html
>
This website houses also statewide information (such as maps, military histories, college files, etc.) as well as serving as a repository
for data for the "orphan" counties, and links to counties that do have their own sites.

Thanks, Sheryl, we need all the resources we can find!
