June 12 1908

Buried at Delphos, C W Wood, who died at Denver last Sunday. He homesteaded south of town over 30 years ago and engaged in the implement business before moving to Denver some 12 years ago.

Funeral of  W R Penn held Friday.

Ethel Eames was married to Walter Davis at the home of the brides parents, 6 miles west of town, Wednesday. They will reside in Glasco where he is in the jewelry business. His parents are Mr & Mrs  TC Davis

Married at the home of the brides parents, Mr & Mrs  W M Hardesty, 8 miles northeast of town, on Wednesday evening, Mildred Hardesty and Earnest Davis. Rev C M Snyder performing the ceremony in front of about 50 relatives. Mr & Mrs Davis are a popular young couple in that neighborhood. They will make their home for the present at the Herb Davis place 3 ˝ miles northeast of town. A reception was held last night at the home of the grooms parents, Mr & Mrs Zack Davis.

Cyclones, wind, rain and floods have reported in nearly all sections of the county. Damage in this community has been slight. Outside of the flooding of the Jacobs and Long property and some water in the elevators, no damage has been done in town. Along Pipe creek some wheat has been covered with water but has drained. The bridge over the creek on south Strickler was washed out and the one at the Lynch place 2 miles north of town.

Mrs Christie Rice, wife of SE Rice, born Sept 28 1867, passed May 29 1908.

Delphos Republican

There is much interest in forming a Delphos band. 35 students have enrolled for free music lessons.

Frank W Smith died at his home west of Delphos Thursday morning. 

Dr George  E Eye,  died last Friday. Paper has his obituary and a tribute to him.

Mr & Mrs Wm. Ranney are the proud parents of a daughter born June 7th.

M B Winnard was appointed administrator in the estate of Charlotte Ellen Hauck.

Courthouse marriages were Edward Walsh of Fairbury , NE and and Alice Gibson of of Superior NE on the 25th and Ray Lutz Murray and Chloe Smithson, both of Edmond , KS on the 31st.

Delphos Republican

The tornado in El Dorado caused some locals worry. The Bob Bourne and Vic Tennyson families live there but Mrs Tom Petree and Ida Mae Robertson heard from their daughters. Mrs Florence Martin was seriously injured and her home demolished. She is a sister of Mrs Morris Willmarth and Joseph Christ of Delphos.

Mrs Claude Moore, passed away May 30th. She was Blanche Woodward. They operated a drug store here for many years, then moved to Emporia , then to Oregon and to California , to be near their daughter, Betty Hanna.

Mrs Barney Adkins passed Tuesday night. One of her 4 sons is Otis Adkins of Delphos.

Delphos Community now has an ambulance service. Dale Haley will handle all calls. The ambulance was provided by Parks Holtz Funeral Home and will be stored in the Zajic building, (formerly the home of East Side Oil co.) donated by Gordon Zajic.

Nancy Kaye Ballou, born Oct 14 1954, passed away after a short illness.  Parents are LaVerne and Mary Ballou. Grandparents are Mr & Mrs Herman Bates of Glasco and Mr & Mrs Kenneth Ballou of Delphos. Great grandparents are Mr & Mrs Pete Carlson and Horace Smith.

Thana Ann Lee became the bride of Richard Delmar Rolph, June 8th at Eureka .  His parents are Mr & Mrs Max Rolph. They will be at home in Manhattan .

Nancy Newell, daughter of Mr & Mrs Ralph Newell of Delphos, and Pete Falcon, were married at St Pauls Catholic Church June 7th.  They will farm west of Delphos.

Maxine Parks and Duane Lee McKain were married June 1, at the Presbyterian church. Parents are Mr & Mrs George Delbert Parks and Mr & Mrs Virgil McKain.

Ottawa County Historical Society will meet in the basement of the courthouse. Speakers will be Alice Halley Brown and Mrs Cawley.

Mrs and Mrs Harry Ranney had two granddaughters arrive, a week apart. June 3rd a girl to Duane and Hazel  Ranney, named Pennie Denise. Hazel is the daughter of Mr & Mrs Jerre Cochran. Then Tuesday a girl was born to Delores Ranney and her husband, Allen Lee Atwell.

Ordinance 593, provides for a curfew in Delphos. Children under 18 cannot be on a city street or alley between 11 pm and 5 am unless accompanied by an adult. They shall be arrested and taken before the Police Judge where they will be fined from one to ten dollars and costs. They shall be confined to jail upon failure to pay the fees.

Keener K-T Service station invites you to an open house June 14 1958 for the new Delphos station.  Free coffee and donuts and suckers for the kids. Grand prize drawing for one tire to fit your car. 2nd prize is 5 gallons HD Fleet oil.

JoAnn Yowell inducted into Sharpshooters Hall of Fame.

Jim and Tammy Doering announce the birth of their daughter, Jennifer Arlene, June 4.  Grandparents are Ethel Majors and Fred Doering.

Picture of Cynthia Ballou,  Delphos Lions Club band member performed at parade and concert for the Lions Club state convention. Mr & Mrs C J Ballou attended.

Virginia Righter and Thelma Baldock reported $59 in poppy sales May 21, for the American Legion. It was a rainy day.

Brent D Cain and Linda Baker, both of Topeka , were married, May 28th. His parents are Mr & Mrs H C Cain.

Mr & Mrs John Nace attended the Kansas Rural Letter Carrier state convention.

Florence Bergsten will celebrate her 80th birthday Friday, June 17.

Max and Maurine Rolph drove to Minneapolis and brought 28 meals from the Golden Wheel to the Senior Center .

Tess Baldock, 94, celebrated her birthday, June 8th.

Families of Charlotte Harding Boll and Franklin Thoman , who passed away, sent Thank Yous.
