COMMENTS FROM THE DIRECTOR

Our September meeting in Denton, at El Guapo’s Restaurant, was pretty nice.  Prior to the formal meeting, our members enjoyed some nice conversation with other members present, including a very nice Mexican food meal.

I shared a table with David and Clara Corbin, and Andy Walla.  It was interesting to hear of the adventures of the Corbins in Canada as David sought to possibly unravel some here-to-fore unknown information on the McLaughlin vehicles and how they related to Buick and General Motors of Canada.  At some future date, I suspect David will have a presentation for us at one of our monthly meetings.

After the meal, we moved to the meeting room in the restaurant for a short meeting.  With our December meeting already set up, we needed to have something for our October meeting.  Scott and Wanda Aurandt volunteered to host the meeting at their house in Decatur, provided that we move the date to the first Saturday, which would coincide with a local car show on the Decatur Square that afternoon.  After some discussion, we voted to move the date of the meeting and with the 3:00pm start time, have a “pot luck dessert” rather than a meal.  After the meeting, those who desire can go to the car show, which starts at 5:00pm.  We thank Scott and Wanda for once again hosting one of our monthly meetings at their home.

Of course, other than our normal October meeting, the South Central Regional Meet will be in Fredericksburg, TX, hosted by our associates of the Alamo Chapter.  They have a pretty full slate of activities for those that desire to partake of them—other than the show event on Saturday, followed by the banquet later that evening.  Somewhat typically, few registrations for the show have come in recently, so I would urge everybody that is going to the South Central Regional Meet in Fredericksburg to get their registrations sent it as soon as possible.  I understand that many already have room reservations, so completing the situation with sending in the meet registration would finalize things for you.

Earlier this year, Charles Bloomberg mentioned a car show at Unique Performance in Farmers Branch, TX.  We have now received information on that event—Unique PerformanceFest, presented by the Sam Pack Auto Group.  The event is October 14 at Unique Performance in Farmers Branch.  The car show is open to all vehicles and motorcycles.  Chip Foose will be the Grand Marshall, with other celebrity appearances.   A tour of Mr. Sam Pack’s private vehicle collection is also available (for a small donation).  Product and services vendors will be on hand, along with food vendors.  Childrens’ activities will include face painting and bounce houses.  The three top clubs who enter the most vehicles will receive cash awards.  There are also several activities centered around Chip Foose.  This event will benefit Chip Foose’s chosen charity (Progeria Research Foundation) and Mr. Sam Pack’s chosen charity (Holy Angels).  The event times are from 8:00am-3:00pm, with awards at 3:00pm.  Location is 13950 Senlac Drive, Suite 300, Farmers Branch, TX.  Show car entry is $25.00/vehicle with spectators admitted “free”.  For more information, check the Unique Performance website www.UniquePerformance.com/upfest.

Our December meeting will be, once again, at the Rave Reviews Restaurant in the Love Field Antique Mall in Dallas, TX.  The restaurant is located in the northwest corner of the mall building.  You will find the Reservation Form in this newsletter.  Please send in your reservation as soon as you can.  Cost per meal is $9.00, with the chapter picking up the balance of the meal’s cost.  Our last time there for our December meeting was a great meal with some great people and a great time for everybody who attended.

Take care and enjoy your Buicks!

Willis Bell

MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 9, 2006 MEETING

September 9, 2006.  Meeting called to order at 2:00pm by Director Willis Bell at El Guapo’s Restaurant in Denton, TX.  It was a rather brief meeting because we had a limited time to use the meeting room.  There were 24 people in attendance.

Willis announced that registrations were skimpy for the Fredericksburg Regional Meet and suggested that anyone who is going to get their registrations in so that the necessary planning for food, etc., can be done.  Willis also mentioned some swap meets and car shows that were occurring at that moment and on the following Sunday.

Charles Bloomberg completed his report on the possibility of having an outdoor meeting at a park in Grapevine.  He noted that the largest pavilion must be reserved and has “a cost” attached to it, therefore, it was decided that we needed to consider other alternatives.  We thank Charles for looking into that for us.

It was decided that the October meeting would be shifted to the first Saturday of October, which is October 7, 2006.  Meeting to be in Decatur, TX at Scotty and Wanda Aurandt’s house at 3:00pm.  (NOTE:  Change of day and time).  There will be a pot luck dessert rather than a meal.  A car show on the Decatur Square starts at 5:00pm.

Meeting adjourned at 2:15pm.

Jimmie Furr, Secretary
