COMMENTS FROM THE DIRECTOR

This year, we’ve certainly had some interesting weather!  Some places more than others!  But it was a bright, sun-shinny day when we

went to Pete’s show in Sherman last month.  It was great to see everybody there, including some of our newest members—the Coxs from

Wichita Falls and Mr. Larnder from nearby Pottsboro (both of whom have some very interesting Buicks!).  It was also great to see the

many interesting and “not many of” cars in Pete’s shop (some of his own and some belonging to customers).  We thank Pete for his hospitality!

Another treat of that meeting was the distribution of our new Chapter Rosters by Obie.  If you were not there, he probably has one with your name on it, so contact him at your earliest convenience to get yours.

For our June meeting (June 9, 2007), we’ll be returning to Andy Walla’s “deck” for another covered dish lunch (including, it was decided, home made ice cream).  This has become another of our chapter’s annual events and we thank Andy and Molly for hosting it.

Of course, it would not be July without a BCA National Meet!  A good number of Texas BCA Members will make the trip to Washington State.  It might be a good ways up there, but I suspect the trip will be worth it to see some sights that many of us have never seen (including some resident Buicks of that part of the world).  More details as they become available, regarding possible caravans and such.  We’ll have a regular chapter meeting in July, too.

The Fall South Central Regional Buick Show, which our chapter will host this year, is scheduled for October 13, 2007 in Mineral Wells, TX.  The show, itself, is scheduled to be at McGraw Motors.  There has been a change in the host hotel.  The change is to the EXECUTIVE INN, just west of the original host hotel (listed in last month’s newsletter).  Scott Aurandt has 20 rooms blocked and guaranteed with his credit card.  The new host hotel is closer to the downtown area and is also near much of the retail activity in Mineral Wells.  The show and host hotel locations are close to each other on East US180.  In Mineral Wells’ downtown area, there are many historic places to see up close.  For the after-show Saturday evening activity, it currently is set up for us to dine at Baris Italian Restaurant, on the west side of Mineral Wells.  It should be fun!

At our May meeting, Pete had some copies of the next The BUGLE.  He indicated that they had the new BCA Board of Directors ballot, which includes the provision for spousal voting.  As is the normal situation, only THREE candidates can be voted for by each member (and spouse).  Please take the time to send in your ballot for this election.

Take care and have a Great Year 2007!

Willis Bell

OUR  JUNE  MEETING  LOCATION

Our, now traditional, June meeting location will be at Andy Walla’s house.  As we have done in the past, Andy will furnish an interesting main course, with members bringing covered dishes to round out the meal and dessert selections—including some home-made ice cream.

The covered dish lunch will take place at approximately 12:00 Noon.  Our chapter meeting will take place soon after the meal is finished.  Bringing some folding chairs to sit in is recommended.  See you there!

MINUTES OF THE MAY 12, 2007 MEETING

The meeting was called to order at 1:10pm by Director Willis Bell, after having a very good meal (with everyone bringing a covered dish to share).  The meeting was held at Pete Phillips’ restoration shop in Sherman, Texas, on Saturday, May 12, 2007.  There were approximately 32 people in attendance.  Willis introduced new members Wanda and Norman Cox from Wichita Falls and Richard Larnder from Pottsboro.  Richard’s occupation is transporting collector cars and he showed up with a 1961 Buick Special Deluxe station wagon.  A very nice car.  Attending with Richard was his girl friend.

Willis reminded us that our fall Regional Meet will be on October 13 at McGraw Motors in Mineral Wells, Texas.  Scott Aurandt has 20 rooms blocked at the Executive Inn for the occasion.  An evening meal is planned for Baris Italian Restaurant (possibly using their meeting room).

Willis announced several more car activities for this summer, including the BCA National Meet in Seattle, Washington in July.  Next meeting will be June 9th at Andy Walla’s home in Bedford.  Andy will cook and the rest of us will bring covered dishes and/or ice cream.  July and August are left open for now--Roy Campbell will confirm at a later date.  September will be at Scotty and Wanda’s in Decatur, with lots of desserts and salads—the final Courthouse Cruise will also be that afternoon and evening.

Sue Campbell was absent due to illness.  Hope she is feeling better now.  Chuck Bloomberg suffered a stroke shortly following the meeting last month, but has recovered and was able to attend this meeting.  It was very good to see him able to attend.  Chuck brought a video presentation of a Buick concept car recently shown in China, on his laptop computer.

Pete described all of the vehicles in his shop, along with their history (as he knew it), and conducted a tour to show them.  He has a number of vehicles of all kinds n various stages of restoration, including a beautiful 1949 Buick Roadmaster Estate wagon that he is finishing up, which he owns.  One of the newer vehicles belongs to Andy Walla and has an interesting history.

There was some discussion on various topics of interest.  Jim Connor mentioned an organization, Vets to Vets, which encourages people to visit war veterans in their hospitals.  Jim mentioned that one subject many of the veterans are interested in is “cars”.  Their next meeting would be May 26, 2007 at The Midway Point (12801 Midway Road at I-635 LBJ Freeway in northern Dallas, TX) at 11:00am.

Roy Faries announced that Kenny Taylor, a former member that moved to Austin, has a 1968 Wildcat convertible that he wants to sell.  Contact Roy Faries for more information.

Meeting adjourned at 1:48pm.

Jimmie Furr, Secretary
