Next Meeting . . .. . March 3, 2007 After the “Wine Styles” Show Meeting 4:00pm

DRIVE AND ENJOY YOUR BUICKS! VINTAGE OR NEWER!

COMMENTS FROM THE DIRECTOR

It was great to see everybody at our annual February Buick Show at the Love Field Antique Mall! A great group of Buicks, too! It was probably one of the few times that Buick Electras made up about one-half of the show entrants. We extend our “Thanks” to John Holden and the Love Field Antique Mall’s management for allowing us to display our Buicks in such a great indoor venue.

For March, we have a neat activity planned, after another car-type activity. Our March meeting will also be on the first Saturday, rather than our normal 2nd Saturday date. The first “car-type” activity, for those that desire to participate, will be at Wine Styles in northeast Dallas. It will be a car show in the parking lot with a wine tasting activity to take place in the Wine Styles business. This activity was put together by Ms. Renee Plata (wife of Terry Plata) with several other car clubs (including AACA chapters) also invited. In order to get a count of attendees, our North Texas Chapter of the BCA members will need to contact Assistant Director Ed Logan (see contact information later in the newsletter) so he can relay the information to Ms. Plata. Other important information on this part of these 1st Saturday in March activities is in a separate article in this newsletter.

For the second part of these 1st Saturday activities, Assistant Director Ed Logan and his wife Rebecca have invited us to their home, after the wine tasting, for our monthly meeting and some snacks and soft drinks. Ed advises that he lives close by the location of the car show, but that it is almost to Rockwall, TX. Again, please let Ed know if you will be attending the meeting at his place so appropriate plans can be made for food and parking. There is also a possibility of a “garage tour” also! Maps of the general area and a more detailed area (the business location and Ed’s residential location, nearby) are later in this newsletter, along with a few changes to the “driving instructions” from the prior newsletter. April brings us to the 20th Annual BUICKS AND BLUEBONNETS TOUR at Salado, orchestrated and hosted by our associates in the Lone Star Chapter. Always a great event at a great place with some great people!

The “Swap Meet” and “Weekend Cruise” season is now officially “OPEN FOR BUSINESS”. By the time you read this, the first DFW Swap Meet at LaGrave Field (Fort Worth, north of downtown) and the famous Decatur Swap Meet will be history. There are many more to follow, so you might need to make your plans to attend or participate in these coming events . . . soon. The Pate Swap Meet will be here before you know it!

Later in the year, we’ve been invited back to Andy Walla’s “deck” for our June meeting (June 9, 2007). It was also determined that we’ll return to Scott and Wanda Aurandt’s home for our September meeting, to again coincide with the last Courthouse Cruise Night on the Decatur Square . . . with a dessert party/meeting prior to the show on the square, as we did in 2006. As the year progresses, the other “blanks” in our meeting schedule will be filled in. Stay tuned for more information when available!

One more important item to mention . . . Your North Texas Chapter dues are now due! Many have already paid-up, but many have not yet done so. Our “chapter year” runs from January 1st to December 31st of each year, unlike your BCA National dues which run from your “join date”. Please renew your membership in the North Texas Chapter as soon as possible. ALSO, be sure to remember that you must be a current member-in-good-standing of the national Buick Club of America to also be a member of any BCA-chartered chapter.

ALSO, ON THE MAIL LABEL FOR THIS NEWSLETTER is a new “number”. This is the date of your BCA Membership expiration. This information was provided by the BCA National Office when I sent the end-of-the-year membership information to them. PLEASE USE IT AS A REMINDER TO RENEW YOUR BCA NATIONAL MEMBERSHIP ON TIME.

Take care and have a Great Year 2007!

Willis Bell

OUR MARCH MEETING LOCATION

Ed Logan sent these directions to the location of our March, 2007 meeting. The starting point would be the Wine Styles location on Lakeview Parkway (SH66) in Rowlett, a short distance west of Dalrock Road.

“The next light WEST (past McDonald’s) on Hwy 66 (Lakeview Parkway) is Chiesa Road. Turn north (right) on Chiesa Road. At the stop sign, turn left. The road goes west a little ways and then turns to the north. Our house is the 2nd house on the left. Look for the brick house on the right side of the road. Our driveway is almost immediately on the left. It is a yellow house with a railroad tie fence in the front yard.

“We would like to know how many are coming to the Wine Styles AND how many are coming to our home for hotdogs, etc., if at all possible. Last minute calls are OK. Anyone coming to our home, who would also like to bring a dessert, please let us know.”

The Wine Styles event will be concluded at 3:30pm, which will allow 30 minutes for our members to reassemble at The Logan’s home, a short distance away, with the meeting scheduled for 4:00pm. PLEASE R.S.V.P. to Ed if you will be attending the Wine Styles event and also if you will be coming to their home for the meeting.

MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 10, 2007 MEETING

Meeting was called to order at 2:15pm at the Love Field Antique Mall in Dallas, TX by Director Willis Bell. There were 37 people in attendance and 1 visitor. Everybody enjoyed eating in the Rave Reviews Restaurant prior to the meeting. John Holden hosted the car show and displayed our chapter banner in the show room.

The car show at the Love Field Antique Mall was a big success, with the following winning trophies:
1st Place Sandy and Bob Buntaine 1955 Buick Roadmaster
2nd Place Wanda and Scott Aurandt 1966 Buick Skylark “Goldie”
3rd Place Paul and Vivian Strange 1967 Buick Riviera

CONGRATULATIONS, everyone!

The Decatur Swap Meet will be held on February 22nd-24th. The Pate Swap Meet comes up at the end of April. Jimmie Furr will put up his tent and display the Buick Club Banner and solicit new members. Also, anyone wishing to sell parts may participate and sit in the booth.

On March 3rd, our chapter will travel to Rowlett. Some of our members will participate in a car show at Wine Styles from 1:30-3:30pm and can also participate in a wine tasting activity at Wine Styles. After this show, our members (at the show) will join other members at the home of Ed and Rebecca Logan, nearby, for hot dogs. Ed has requested anyone who is going to the Wine Styles show and also to Ed and Rebecca’s home, to let him know so that he can make plans for the group. There will be more information and a map in the newsletter.

On March 24th, anyone wishing to work on their car may go to Scott Aurandt’s place in Mineral Wells. The address is 200 W. Hubbard (US180).

April brings the Buicks and Bluebonnets meet in Salado. We will have our monthly meeting on another weekend in April. Watch for details.

Andy Walla announced a ’92 LeSabre for sale for $1500.00, with rear door damage. Andy also mentioned that the club is invited to hold their meeting at his home on June 9, 2007.

Scott Aurandt mentioned that he has several of his cars for sale as he wants to purchase three 1932 Buicks and needs to make room for them.

John Holden said he would like for the club to have another car show during the summer at the Love Field Antique Mall.

The September meeting will be held at Scott and Wanda Aurandt’s home in Decatur. There will be a car show on the square. This will be a dessert party and meeting, as we did before, on the 1st Saturday in September.

“Happy Birthday” to Molly.

Willis Bell took several minutes to discuss rumors about some models of cars being discontinued in the auto industry.

Meeting adjourned at 3:05pm.

Jimmie Furr, Secretary

OUR MARCH MEETING . . .

For March, you will have a choice of participating in two events or just one. If you do the first one, the second one is very convenient for you to do too!

The first (optional) activity is described below. If you will be participating in this activity, please contact Ed Logan so he can relay the total number of cars and people from our NTBCA group that will be attending, to Ms. Plata. Ed’s contact information >> phone # 972/475-2257 leave your message on his answering machine.

Ed has relayed the following driving directions to the complimentary wine tasting at Wine Styles. The location is 8301 Lakeview Parkway, Suite 103 Rowlett, TX 75088

“If you travel from Dallas toward Rockwall on I-30, you exit at Dalrock Road (Exit 64) just before you get to Rockwall. Go north on Dalrock Road until you get to Lakeview Parkway (State Hwy 66, about 3+ miles). Take a left (West) on Lakeview Parkway and Wine Styles is less than a ½ mile or so down on the right. As you drive west on Lakeview Parkway, look for McDonalds. Turn into the next little shopping center past McDonald’s and the bank. Wine Styles is in the northwest corner of the next little shopping center on the right.”
